The Chapel

Meeting together in the School Chapel gives us the opportunity to think about questions that are vital to us all:

  • What kind of person do I want to be?
  • What kind of world do I live in, and how can I make a difference for good?
  • What is God like and is it possible to have a relationship with God?

The Chapel is situated on the Castle Campus and the senior boys and the Sixth Form attend services once a week. The senior girls have services at the beginning and end of terms and the Preparatory School attend special services for Christmas and Easter. The Chaplain also takes assemblies at Kings (senior girls) and at the Prep School once a week.

Chapel services, which are open to all members of the school community, are held on several occasions each term, normally on a Friday evening. Please check the School Calendar for further details.

Special occasions are celebrated in the Chapel or at St. Peter's, our Parish Church. Remembrance Sunday is a special day in the school calendar as we particularly remember the 368 pupils whose names are recorded on our two war memorials. Prep School Thanksgiving (October), Founder's Day (October), Advent Carols (December), Vale (July) and Speech Day (July) are also special occasions in our year.

The Chaplain (Revd. Stephen Golding), who is licenced by the Bishop of St. Albans, lives on campus and can be contacted on 01442 358095. The Revd. Peter Swaffield is the Assistant Chaplain.

We are fortunate to have a beautiful Chapel building with an impressive pipe organ. The Chapel symbolises our Christian foundation and provides a quiet space within the busy activities of school life, in which we can open our hearts and minds and broaden our horizons.
