One School
Central to our vision is the belief that we should create an ethos that allows all pupils, boys and girls, to reach their full potential. In order to achieve this, we aim to offer appropriate teaching environments for each age group: hence we have created a structure that offers the best of both co-educational and single-sex education.
In the Preparatory School, children aged between 3-11 are taught in a co-educational setting before transferring at the age of 11 into one of the two single-sex Senior Schools, through which they progress up to GCSE.
At Berkhamsted, we believe that pupils progress best and ultimately achieve better results if, between the ages of 11 and 16, they are taught within a single-sex environment. For this reason we are committed to offering single-sex education for this age group. Links between the boys and girls' Senior Schools continue through joint activities, such as music and dramatic productions, the Combined Cadet Force and the Duke of Edinburgh Award, but in other respects boys and girls are taught separately.
At Sixth Form level we offer a rich and diverse range of subjects in a more mature co-educational environment, with a full academic programme in preparation for higher education.
