Careers
Careers department staff are always available to offer information, guidance and advice, and there are opportunities for individual consultation throughout the School.
Our excellent careers resource rooms contain reference books covering occupations, university applications, GAP year options and sponsorship. Prospectuses for all universities and other institutions of Higher Education are available.
Year 8 students do preliminary research into careers untilising the Fast Tomato programme. Year 9 students are introduced to the Careers library and the material available. They participate, in small groups, in a lively computer programme ‘Kudos’ answering a battery of some two hundred questions indicating likes and dislikes. The programme then generates a list of possible careers to match their interests. The pupils are encouraged to find out and record details of these careers and to do further research in the Careers library.
Year 10 pupils are presented with the variety of educational pathways on offer. The procedure of the vocational guidance tests (the Morrisby Profile) which they undergo at the end of Year 10 is explained, as is the guidance and support on offer through their school membership of the Independent Schools Careers Organisation.
In Year 11, all pupils have individual guidance interviews where they can discuss the results of these tests, and their career aspirations with trained staff. They are also encouraged to attend the annual Higher Education and Gap Year Fair organised by the School and ISCO. Many Higher Education institutions and Gap Year companies attend.
