The Bishop's Stortford High School 17/5/08
1st XI v BSHS - lost by 2 wickets
Once again we managed to lose the toss and find ourselves experiencing the more difficult conditions. With a revamped batting order, two youngsters Gilder (55) and Sambrook (28) displayed the kind of intelligence and determination to score runs that has been missing from some senior players. In particular their running between wickets and shot selection was outstanding. We were moving along nicely until the dreaded 87 appeared on the scoreboard and we lost our second wicket. Following this there was a steady decline until we were bowled out for 171 off just 34 overs.
Shortly into Bishop Stortford’s innings it started raining making conditions very difficult for our bowlers who proceeded to give the batsman far too many easy scoring options. As a team we stuck at it in the field and reduced Stortford to 8 for 173 as they went past us with 5 overs to spare.
Until some senior players have a look at their own game and eliminate those shots that they regularly get out playing we will not perform consistently
