2005 Cricket
U13B Season

Although the statistics for the season were not that impressive, there were a number of positives features.  In the first few games all of the team struggled when it came to batting, with most of them scoring less than 3 or 4 runs. However, by the end of the season many of them were starting to bat with more confidence and patience and some had progressed into double figures. In particular, this applies to Andrew Johnstone who managed to top score in the Haileybury game with 28 not out, and in the last game, against Enfield, with 45 runs.

Secondly, the bowling and fielding were usually of a good standard for a B side. Although most games produced a large number of extras, from both teams, there was some excellent bowling, particularly from the openers, Edward O’Neill and Nathan Chan. Nathan took a total of 13 wickets, with best figures of 4 wickets for 8 runs in the Haberdashers’ Aske’s game. Close behind him was Jordon Stewart with 11 wickets and the best of 4 for 20 in the last match.

Lastly, a highlight for me was the captaincy of Edward O’Neill. In all my years of coaching I have seldom come across a more organised captain. He unfailingly managed to ensure that we had 11 players on the pitch each Saturday, and that the bowling and batting line-up was arranged. On the field, he led by example, always giving of his best. Well done Edward.
