Politics
Government and Politics is a relatively new subject at Berkhamsted and is taught only at A Level. We teach contemporary British Politics in Year 12 and International Politics in Year 13.
The Department achieved 70% A grades in 2005 and four of our students were placed in the top ten in the nation for Government & Politics. The subject enjoys continuing success in examination results with not less than 50% of students achieving an A or B grade over the last four years, 50% gaining A grades in 2006 and 62% gaining A grades in 2007. In June 2008 the Department secured 53% A grades for A2, and in the last threee years 100% A-C grades in Government & Politics.
The Department organises occasional visits to Politics conferences, and also a bi-annual visit to the Palace of Westminster, the next visit being scheduled (provisionally) for October 2009.
Politics fits in well with History or Economics or any other analytical discipline at AS or A2 Level. History and Politics is currently one of the most popular combined humanities disciplines on British degree courses.
