Music
Music at Berkhamsted Collegiate links the curricular and the extra-curricular closely together. GCSE, AS and A2 Music and AS and A2 Music Technology courses all follow the Edexcel specifications. In years 7, 8 and 9, all classes have one double period of music a week.
There is a busy schedule of concerts and services throughout the year. Concerts take place in Old Hall, Centenary Hall or Deans' Hall (with the annual St. Cecilia concert in November in Berkhamsted Town Hall). Services, at which the Chamber Choir performs, take place either in Chapel or, three times a year on the major school occasions, in St. Peter's church. The major school ensembles are the Chamber Choir, the Symphony Orchestra, the Symphonic Wind Band and the Big Band. The Chamber Choir performs regularly at venues outside the school.
Foreign tours take place annually and House Music Competitions for both Sixth Form and the boys' and girls' Senior Houses happen either annually or biennially. There is also a programme of year-group concerts for the lower years of the Senior School which runs during the first half of the Hilary Term. Vocal ensembles are run at both Castle and King's campuses and a number of chamber ensembles rehearse weekly, mainly geared towards the ensemble performing requirements of the GCSE, AS and A2 specifications.
