Senior School
Information Technology

The School has one network, which has undergone very considerable modernisation in the last three years, running Windows XP Pro on the desktop, Office 2003, Macromedia Studio MX and a very wide range of subject-specific software.  The broadband Internet connection serves the whole school and is filtered in-house.  The main ICT rooms at Castle and Kings have enough computers for one per pupil, interactive whiteboards and projectors, scanners and colour laser printers.  There are other clusters of computers in subject departments, the Libraries and Sixth Form study areas.  Amongst other developments we are now embarking on a phased introduction of wireless networking and have now made it possible for pupils and staff to log on to the school Learning Environment from home.

In Years 7 and 8 pupils have specialist ICT lessons and the course covers word processing, spreadsheet work, Internet use and general computing skills.  Pupils are able to work at their own pace and complete tasks early if they already have high levels of skill when they join us.  They also have the opportunity to work with Control Technology and longer projects.
