About the Preparatory School

Berkhamsted Prep School

In September 1998, we established a  co-educational Preparatory School in Kings Road replacing our two previous Preparatory Schools. This enables us to offer first-class facilities for the 3-11 age group, in conjunction with the highest standards of teaching and educational development. Key features include a multi-purpose hall, modern dining facilities, a full range of specialist classrooms and nursery units.

The Preparatory School offers a purposeful learning environment with exciting opportunities for offering the highest standards of teaching. The School benefits from newly refurbished and up-to-date resources for infants and juniors in an attractive environment appropriate for younger children and has easy access to the extensive facilities of the Senior School campuses.

Sport and physical education play a central role in the life of the Preparatory School. Particular emphasis is given to competitive team events and children are encouraged to learn the value of participating as well as developing individual skills.

We offer a broad range of optional extra-curricular activities at lunch time, the end of the School day and on Saturday mornings. Activities include sports, drama, art and music, which are important in the overall development of the child. Such activities encourage staff and children to interact outside the classroom and provide opportunities in a lively and enjoyable environment to enhance a child's individual skills, interests and self-confidence.
