The Berkhamsted School Boat Club celebrated 50 years of rowing on the Grand Union canal with a tea in the Governors' Room of the school's Chadwick Centre on Saturday 20th June. The event was attended by some 30 people, including Boat Club members past and present, parents and coaching staff.
The Guest of Honour was Ross Metcalfe, who joined the club in 1960. He was presented with a commemorative blade by Master in Charge of Rowing, Roland Maxted. Berkhamsted students Nick Sidwell and Morwenna Senior were also named as Captain of Boys' and Girls' Boats respectively for the next academic year.

In his address, Ross paid tribute to Tim Jolly, one of the masters who started the club in 1959 and who sadly passed away in 2008. After the tea guests proceeded to the Moor to name and launch a double scull, the 'Tim Jolly', purchased with funds bequeathed to the club in Tim's will. The boat was rowed by Year 9 pupils, Erica Wood and Angus Tidey.
