Tom Metcalfe from year13, of School House has taken this photograph, 'Kitchen Window' in Camden. It was a chance photograph rather than staged and the composition is remarkable. Firstly, the view into the room is framed by the actual window frame and secondly the viewer's gaze is drawn into the room - it is as if we, the viewer, are actually standing there looking in on another world.
Furthermore the intriguing composition and the dramatic lighting references the 17th century 'window' still life paintings of Juan Sanchez Cotan with the espresso machine, pizza boxes and boxes of herbal teas being the contemporary objects replacing the pheasant, melon, cabbages and quince of the past.
