On a cool and decidedly blustery Thursday 19th November, the school hosted its first ever Eco-Day, the culmination of over a year's work by the Eco-Schools student committee.
Promo videos and assemblies were performed for Prep, Senior and Sixth Form pupils on ways to reduce our carbon footprint, whilst IT activities, videos and climate change workshops were performed across the sites on the day.
Castle Campus witnessed an entertainingly messy hand-painting session in the lunch hour, and at King's the creation of an 'Eco-Tree' of written messages by the girls was accompanied by the visit of Amanda Yorwerth on behalf of Friends of the Earth.
A few bemused students even watched Nick Sidwell and myself row into school from Cow Roast before carrying our boat across the Quad for what must be the first time in school history: the rowing team's very own contribution to the zero-carbon cause. All in all the day proved a thoroughly enjoyable reinforcement of Berkhamsted's commitment to the Eco-Schools Project.
Winners of the House Competitions were:
Senior Girls: Holme
Senior Boys: Cox's
Sixth Form House: Burgh
Will Hallan (Year 13)
