Re: Swine Flu [H1N1]
Dear Berkhamsted Parent
This afternoon we received notice of a confirmed case of Swine Flu [H1N1] - a Year 6 pupil at the Prep School. We have contacted the Health Protection Agency (HPA), who have made the judgement NOT to close the school. However, I felt that it is important that you are aware of the situation. Thus the School will remain open until such time that we receive further instruction from the HPA.
The School is taking enhanced hygiene precautions, including the supply of dry hand-wash. Please could I ask you to make sure that pupils bring a supply of tissues to school and to encourage them, as we will, to use them for all coughs and sneezes and then dispose of them immediately. There are posters around the School about the use of tissues and the importance of washing hands.
Pupils with symptoms should stay at home and parents should notify their own GP immediately. Please also keep us informed at the same time, and let us know the outcome of any tests. Pupils showing signs of infection at school will be sent to the Sanatorium where they will be cared for until a parent or guardian can collect them.
In the event that a decision is taken to close the School, we will post a notice on our website and Moodle. Please pass on this information to those families who do not have direct access to the internet, so that they can receive updated information. If you have any concerns, please ring my office on 01442 358002.
Yours sincerely
