Berkhamsted Spring Concert lifts the winter blues

Barbershop Boys

Berkhamsted School's annual Spring Concert was held in Centenary Hall, with students from Year 7 to Year 13 presenting a programme of musical items that ensured there was something for everyone to enjoy.

Talented Year 13 pianist Joe Tang played the first movement from Beethoven's Piano Concerto No.1 supported by the school's Senior Orchestra, and the newly-formed Barbershop Boys made their debut at the concert, performing Londonderry Air with Matt Johnston as soloist.

Strictly Come Dancing musical director, David Arch, and his son Tom, now in Year 13, treated an appreciative audience to a duet on piano and guitar, while Big Band showcased some of their favourite numbers including Stormy Weather sung by Imogen Nation and It's only a Paper Moon with Sid Sagar.

There were several solo items at the concert including pianist Matthew Edmondson-Jones, singers Alice McKenna, Jamie Johnson and Victoria Whittaker, and violinist Luisa Ramirez, who performed the third movement from JS Bach's Concerto in A Minor.

There will be another opportunity to see performances by these and many other talented musicians at the Berkhamsted School Young Musician of the Year Competition which takes place in Centenary Hall on Monday 22nd March, starting at 6.30pm. The adjudicator this year will be Mr Ian Maclay, managing director of the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Entry is by free ticket only - call 01442 358000.
