| The Berkhamsted School Equestrian team |
I am pleased to report that Berkhamsted Equestrian Team, for the second year running, won the Headington School Interschools Show-Jumping Competition on 8th April. The venue was the Addington indoor show jumping arena and the jump height was 2'6 to 2'9. 27 schools took part with a total of 57 riders and this year we were only allowed three riders per school team, so all three scores had to count.
Our team featured three of the riders from last year: Lucy Alderson on Paddy, Natalie Bond on La Bamba and Emma Wood on Mr Bobby Dazzler. All three had excellent double clears. The second round of jumps was timed - Lucy had 25.91 seconds, Emma 31.55 seconds and Natalie 40.84 seconds giving them a total of 98.3 seconds which was an amazing 14.38 seconds faster than St Hugh's School in second place.
It is also worth noting that this was Natalie Bond's first competition on La Bamba, which makes the score doubly impressive. It was quite nerve racking jumping for the school especially as we had won it last year! We enjoyed wearing the new saddle cloths and hat silks; they made us feel even more of a team.
