The Libraries

Berkhamsted Collegiate School has a library centrally located on each campus.  Both libraries are welcoming and retain a traditional atmosphere, whilst creating a modern environment conducive to learning and an appreciation of the world of technology and literacy.

Access to the Internet is available through multimedia computers, including several on-line databases like New Scientist, Exam.net, Amazing Grades, Grove Art and Grove Music, Which, Proquest Literature and History. In addition a wide selection of journals and newspapers, videos, DVDs, talking books and over 25,000 books are on the open shelves. A ‘reserve’ book stock and an archive complete the collections.

Both Libraries are open to staff and pupils from 8am – 5pm during term time and are used extensively by students in lesson time and through individual choice for prep, research and personal reading.  They are staffed by a dedicated team, led by a Chartered Librarian who is a Head of Department, always available to assist students and liaise with teaching staff to ensure that resources support the curriculum. Induction and information skills sessions are arranged for different year groups to help students make the most of the libraries’ facilities and resources to enhance their learning.
