Swimming 2007

The Swimming Squad have trained and competed with dedication this season. With many sessions on offer and many fixtures, the squad has continued to improve their stroke development and personal best times.

Once again, we took part in the Panagraphics Swimming League, competing against some strong opposition from: Haberdashers’ Aske’s, Kings Langley, St Albans, St Edmunds Collage, Royal Masonic School for Girls, St Columba’s Boys, Townsend and Marlborough. Throughout the whole competition, the team’s determination was unyielding, and this was demonstrated by the impressive results achieved by each part of the team:

Junior Girls– 2nd; Junior Boys- 3rd, with an Improver’s Trophy (where they gained more points this year than last year); Intermediate Girls- 3rd; Intermediate Boys-2nd, with an Improver’s Trophy; Senior Girls- 4th and Senior Boys 3rd place.

The Year 7 Panagraphics competition also took place, allowing Year 7 an opportunity to compete in a less daunting setting.  Overall the boys and girls team came 2nd. The Year 7 Girls have become a very strong team, swimming faster times than many girls three years older. We look forward to watching their success continue.

This year’s District Gala versus John F Kennedy, Ashlyns, Kings Langley, Tring and Hemel Hempstead, also led to some excellent results, reflecting the teams’ work and commitment to training and competing.  The results were as follows:

Year 7 & 8 Girls -1st ; Years 7 & 8 Boys -1st; Years 9 & 10 Girls-2nd; Years 9 & 10 Boys-1st; Years 11-13 Girls – 2nd;Years 11-13 Boys - 4th.

This year also saw many of our squad swimmers representing Dacorum in the County School Swimming Championships. Congratulations to the following swimmers who qualified: Abbie Barnes and Amy Barton in Year 7, Dacre Capstick and Will Rose in Year 8, Holly Cooper in Year 9, Basia Capstick and Joe Winterburn in Year 10, Emily Hartwell and Will Wise in Year 11 and Tommy Sheldrick in Year 13.

The school also entered teams into the Bazuka Relay Championships, and, although none of our teams made it to the next round, everyone swam extremely well with it being a valuable experience in a competitive setting.

Finally, throughout the whole year there have been a number of friendly galas against Wycombe Abbey, Queen Anne’s, Royal Masonic, Haberdashers’ Aske’s, Eton and Haileybury. Each gala allowed the team to put into practice what they have trained so hard to achieve in training.  Worth mentioning is the unfailing team spirit amongst the squad during training sessions and at galas.

All of these results are due the constant dedication, commitment and determination shown by the swimmers.

Special Mention

Many swimmers have competed for their Swimming Clubs at County and Regional Swimming fixtures.  Congratulations to Dacre Capstick who has qualified for the UK National Swimming Finals in ten events.  This is a rare achievement for a swimmer to qualify over so many events, as the Nationals are reserved for, on average, the top 10-20 swimmers in the country at each event per age group!  We look forward to following Dacre’s achievements.
