The subject has been taught very successfully at Key Stages 3 and 4 and at A level. Last year 99% of our GCSE pupils achieved grades in the range A* to C with 64% achieving either a grade A or A*. At A level a variety of courses is offered from Further Mathematics to AS Mathematics including units in Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics. Last year, of the 40 A level students, 35 achieved either an A or B grade. A weekly workshop is operated to give pupils access to expert individual help with any topic at any level.
The better mathematicians are regularly entered for the UK Mathematics Trust Challenges and most recently 14 achieved Gold Standard at Junior level, 16 at Intermediate level and 7 at Senior level. Four of our very best mathematicians were invited to sit the British Mathematical Olympiad papers.
Each year we enter a team in the Hans Woyda Mathematics Quiz competition, which includes about 60 of the top schools in the southeast.
The picture shows some Y7 pupils participating in a problem-solving event. We also offer our Y9 pupils the opportunity to take part in a Bridges, Maths and Design Workshop. In addition, we took some of our Y10 pupils to the National Codes Centre at Bletchley Park and some of our Y12 students to the National Space Centre in Leicester.
