with real style and confidence, and the Y7 and Y8 girls’ Junior Choir sang an arrangement of three well-known Gospel songs which the audience really enjoyed.
Our four year 7 soloists this year were Laura MacDougall who wowed everyone with her lovely harp playing, Ophelia Jeffrey, singing a beautiful song by Schubert, Ruth Harding who played a terrific jazzy piece on the oboe, and Ben Brazier on his trumpet with a great piece called Klezmerantics. Each soloist won a well-deserved huge round of applause from the audience.
Then it was the turn of all the Year 7s who had been working hard in their music lessons to learn two jazz songs Ain’t Misbehavin’ and Satin Doll, and a rock ‘n’ roll song from the 50s: Shake, Rattle and Roll – complete with dance routine for the chorus!
Accompanied by the school’s very own Big Band, the Year 7s really rocked the joint with this last song in particular and together they made a terrific sound in Centenary Hall.
The concert was a huge success and Mrs Hatton and all the music staff would like to say a very big thank you to every student at the school who played their part in this. Well done!
